“Heart Of Darkness”

Some things in life are more valuable than gold. For Conan, honor has opened more doors than the largest gemstones. Today the Cimmerian travels into the wilds of the Ghulistani Hinterlands to repay an old woman. It is a rescue mission. One that will bring him closer to Crom’s hells than ever before.

Days ago, Conan was struck by a foul beast conjured from the underworld of Er’bo’a – a mythical witch destined to destroy the world. His injuries were more than a simple battle wound. This was some old world poison unknown to most in the healer’s trade. The old woman named Hanna had saved Conan from certain death. It was time for him to repay her kindness.

“The Precipice”

Bran Mak Morn, the great chieftain of the Pictish Tribes, chased a Roman courier through the storm. The continuous rainfall had left the coastline a great bog filled with unstable ground. In the dark, both men struggled to keep their horses on sure-footing as the cliffs grew nearer. Bran shouted to his horse. They must act fast if he is to secure the orders tucked away in the Legionnaire’s saddlebags.

The Roman occupation of Briton had brought nothing but sorrow to the Celts. Language, art, and roads were just some of the gifts touted in response to accusations of their cruelty. Why would savages not want civilization? Bran Mak Morn knew better. They may not have a unified language, or gravel-filled roads, yet his people had known civilization for centuries. The slaughter of the Picts had to be stopped.

The courier held plans for the next attack. Bran needed those orders to plan countermeasures. He lifted his mace and swung upon the Roman. It was time to test this man’s gall.

“Curse Of The Golden Calf”

Faraz lay dead near the cattle, his head crushed by some extraordinary blunt force. The Herdsmen turned to the American expecting an admission of guilt, but even they knew the great El Borak didn’t possess that amount of strength. Someone or something had been stalking the Orakzai across the Baluchistan plains. Now, under the cover of night, an ancient curse had shown its hand.

Has Francis Xavier Gordon chosen the wrong band of Nomads to ride with? Who is the mysterious keeper spoken about in whispers by Nazir Ullah? How did the Persians obtain such perfect specimens of cattle? Collect the series to find out!

Review

What an amazing comic book! Conan the Barbarian teams up with a motley band of treasure hunters seeking the gold of Er’bo’a. The King of the unified Pictish tribes, Bran Mak Morn, stalks a courier through a Roman-occupied Briton. Then El Borak duals with biblical powers across the Persian plateau. My favorite of the three storylines, by the way. Writers Chris Ryall, Fabian Nicieza, and Patrick Zircher should be commended for their work maintaining the level of quality set forth by Robert E Howard. If you can only buy one comic book this month, Savage Sword of Conan No.12 is the way to go. This is a five-star jaunt into historical-infused fantasy storytelling. Howard would be proud.
