Werewolf by Night: Blood Hunt

Werewolf by Night: Blood Hunt

My Rating

Rating: 3 out of 5.

“Terror In Dino Park”

Wild Dino Adventures, an abandoned amusement park located just six miles south of the Hopi Native American reservation, has just caught the attention of a group of state police officers as a giant fireball lights up the night sky overhead. The abandoned tourist attraction had been closed for over a decade now, left to rot in the harsh Arizona desert, but tonight a gruesome entity has returned thanks to a group of high school kids led by a fledgling sorcerer.

Inside the property, scattered among the dilapidated rides and animatronic dinosaurs, lay the charred remains of two ex-classmates of one Jake Gomez, Werewolf by Night. As a demonic force stalks his friends through the midway attractions, an even greater evil begins to block out the moon and the supernatural powers it grants those cursed by lycanthropy. Now, the fearless werewolf must stop the Blood Hunt from destroying his ancestral lands and releasing a murderous spirit trapped by hellfire decades ago.

How did a group of teenagers manage to summon a ghost with a grudge dating back before they were even born? Have all the Arizona State Police been infected by the Blood Hunt curse? Will Jake Gomez ever get to finish his Jurassic-sized workout? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

Awe, man, I thought this issue was going to star Jack Russell, the original Werewolf by Night. Instead, we get this second-string knock-off, named Jake Gomez. I’m sure Jake is all that and a bag of chips, but for Gen-Xers like me, we really don’t know his origin story. According to a note printed at the very end of the book, Marvel Comics claims that Jack Russell will be getting his own one-shot in the near future. Let’s hope so, for us old timers.

This comic book wasn’t bad. Jason Soo delivers a solid script, even with his bare minimum references to the primary Blood Hunt event. I don’t know how much of a fan you are of the Jake Gomez version of Werewolf by Night, but for me, I could take it or leave it. The reference to the 1970s Ghost Rider villain was the most interesting part of this for me. So, with that said, I think this issue of Blood Hunt deserves three out of five stars.
