“Chapter Five”
Red Sonja and the pilgrim named Lucas have chased the murdering psychopath, Grimore, through thickets and hills, but he has eluded them with dark sorcery. Now the old man waits for the two slayers near the shores of a thunderous waterfall. As Sonja and Lucas close the distance to strike with the steely blades, Grimore reveals at last the hidden entrance to the Lost Valley. Will the grieving pursuers stay their hands and trust the fiend who killed their friends? Trust is a scarce commodity when revenge and treasure are so close for the taking.
What is the next move for Red Sonja and her dwindling force of allies? Who is the elderly Grimore in the grand scheme of things? Will Sonja ever lay hands on the treasure meant for a king and his kingdom? Collect the series to find out!
Reviewer Notes
I said it before, and I will say it again. I want to like this series and I want to support Red Sonja content no matter who is producing the medium. However, this five-book miniseries by Dynamite Entertainment was absolutely not ready for prime time distribution. I will also state that this final issue of Empire Of The Damned is absolutely not worth the $4.99 price tag. There is not enough content here to justify the cost of the book. This whole story arc could have been released as a jumbo sized comic or a small trade paperback at the most.
I honestly can not recommend Red Sonja: Empire Of The Damned to any reader or fan of the Red Sonja franchise. Dynamite needs to stop pushing out amateurish level work just to sell variant covers. I’m giving this issue two out of five stars.
The series as a whole is a weak two-star value at best. I would recommend that the readers save their money and use it to buy the vintage Marvel Red Sonja runs. They are a superior product.
