“Team Jen – Part 02”
Torn between two worlds! Jennifer Walters has been miserable for quite some time now. Her job. Her love life. Even her friends seemed distant. So when the Avengers extend an offer to rock her world, can the Sensational She-Hulk refuse?
Now Jennifer must make the biggest decision of her life. Be the intergalactic superhero her peers expect, or the homegrown hero her best friends need and rely upon? This is a turning point for the emerald giantess. The only question is, will it be a new beginning, or a reaffirmation of a life Jennifer truly enjoys.
Reviewer Notes
We’ve reached the end of a series that was neither asked for, nor deserved by the production team assigned to it. I’m assuming Marvel’s Editor-in-chief, C.B. Cebulski, green-lighted this lackluster tarnish on John Bryne and his original 1989 Sensational She-Hulk vision. Rainbow Rowell’s run on her two She-Hulk titles released less than half the books of John Bryne’s single series. I would also like to point out that Bryne’s series took place during the first comic book industry collapse of the 1990s. Let that sink in.
As a fan of She-Hulk, it became apparent early on in Rowell’s work on She-Hulk Vol.04 that she wasn’t bringing anything new to the character. The “slice of life” angle does not retain a reader base on any superhero based comic book in the past ten years. So why did Cebulski allow this nonsense to continue from one title to another? I did enjoy Rowell’s Sensational She-Hulk slightly more than her work on the regular series, but the improvements were not enough to justify this follow-up.
If you are a hardcore fan that just has to have everything She-Hulk in your collection, by all means buy this series. If you are a reader or a collector on a budget, skip Sensational She-Hulk Vol.02. Spend your hard-earned dollars on buying John Bryne’s 1990s classic. I give this final issue three out of five stars. The series as a whole has its ups and downs, but it’s a three star series at best.
