“Helen of Wyndhorn”
Many times Barnabus traveled to the “Other World” with Helen in tow. With each trip the Governess Lilith Appleton became more sullen and melancholy. The girl’s lessons were not lacking, they had become non-existant. This was no way to raise a young lady to face the trials and tribulation of modern living. Then in the fall of that year, after both grandfather and granddaughter returned to Wyndhorn house, Helen insisted on being trained in swordsmanship.
Helen refused to become one of “those women” – frail and reliant on a man to rescue her. She could rescue herself! After several days of unwithering-harassment, Barnabas finally agreed. For the next year, the Cole family butler, Joseph, would train Helen in the ways of martial combat. Despite the constant objections of Lilith, Helen would become a world-class learner. If only the girl had placed as much passion into her French lessons. It mattered little as Helen’s thoughts were always pointing to the Other World.

Helen of Wyndhorn #04 is an absolute clinic at writing and producing an epic fantasy comic book series. Writer Tom King and artist Bilquis Evely have proven that there is so much more to extract from the fantasy genre. With three timelines to follow in this storyline, there are so many questions still waiting to be answered. I give this issue a hardy five out of five stars.
