My Rating
“Party Hardly!”
It’s Halloween night and this year Hiram Lodge is letting his baby girl host her first party at the mansion. Wait! Whaaat?!
As Sabrina Spellman and Jughead Jones race to the Lodge estate to confront the atrocities, someone is spiking the punch. Is that really as severe as Archie’s choice in dates? Amber Nightstone! Really?!
What horrendous creatures walk among the Riverdale high school students at this year’s Halloween bash? Who is that old fossil, anyway? Can Sabrina save the party from going to hell?
“House Of Horrors”
Ginger Snapp has one obsession this Halloween, and that’s the horror movie sensation Melanie the demonic doll. But can Riverdale’s favorite redhead handle this level of evil? Nope! Cue the “safe in numbers” trope. Can Betty and Veronica help Ginger find her safe space, or will she be welcomed to the end?!
“Costume Confusion”
Mighty Crusaders here! Mighty Crusaders there! Mighty Crusaders everywhere! So how is Pureheart and the other Superteens supposed to stop the impostors when they can blend in with the other trick-or-treaters? Maybe some old allies can help stop this Halloween Injustice?!
“Masque-Raiding!”
In the world of crime fighting it takes a combination of mystical insight and high-tech gear to catch today’s baddies. For Riverdale’s newest hero, it will take more than a few gadgets for the Web to route out a pair of costumed Halloween party crashers. Look out Betty and Veronica! Foul play is a foot!
“The Mother Of All Scare Tactics”
Even the most cunning superheroes can find themselves caught in a web of chaos spun by Betty and Veronica. For Shinji Patton, aka Ghost Fox, his teleportation powers are about to be tested to their very limits. The drama queens of Riverdale High have no bounds when it comes to Halloween parties. Just run, Shinji! Run for your sanity!
Reviewer Notes
The annual Archie Halloween Spectacular has always been the time for Archie Comics to shine, and this year the comic book does just that. Say hello to the Mighty Crusaders! These superheroes seem to make a comeback from time to time. Heck, they even inspired the Superteens to make a special appearance. This annual is all about the superheros. Some good, some not so much.
I don’t read much traditional Archie Comics these days, but when I do, I enjoy them. The writers always seem to have a pulse on the latest pop culture references and ideas. In this case, the movie M3gan (2022) holds a heavy influence over one of the stories. Also, prepare yourself with an onslaught of Easter Eggs peppered throughout the book. I just live it.
I give the Archie Halloween Spectacular 2024 edition a solid five out of five star rating. Artist Dan Parent breaks out all the monster references. I mean ALL of them!
