Where the Rubber Meets the Road
Doctor Morell’s staff car just passed through a checkpoint roughly 18 kilometers from his destination. The moon is a waxing crescent tonight making his driver feel more confident the low light will help camouflage their travel. Unknown to Hitler’s personal physician, a group of red blooded, all American soldiers are hot on his trail.
Two klicks west, Sgt. Rock and Easy Company arrives at the checkpoint in a blood drenched Opel truck roughly ten minutes later. The guards level their MP-40s at the cab while a staff Sergeant calls over towards a nearby barracks for the “Re-Gens”. Rock rolls down the window as the grouchy looking kraut walks up to the driver side window. “Drehen sie ihre papiere um!”, the German orders. Sgt. Rock reaches into the glove compartment, collects the Opel’s owner manual and hands it through the driver’s side window.
Will Easy Company make it through the check point or will the Re-Gens eat their lunch? How does a bazooka round puncture a fuel depot tank and not ignite the whole kit and kaboodle? Has Morell found a new Führerbunker? Collect the series to find out!
Reviewer Notes
Well, this issue is more filler than advancement in storyline. There are a few funny moments but that’s about it. DC Comics reserves a few pages to advertise their new Lazarus Planet series, and a one page tribute to voice actor Kevin Conroy.
Kevin voiced Batman in the 1992-1998 Batman: The Animated Series. This was a groundbreaking cartoon series that led the way for spin-off series and other accolades. If you haven’t seen the series I would recommend it for any Batman fan out there.
For this issue of Sgt. Rock, I’m giving it three out of five stars. The art is cool but there wasn’t much going on elsewise. Sorry Bruce, maybe next time.
