“Keys Of Knowledge No.04 – Atomic Energy”

Have you ever wondered how we get energy from the atom? Who was the first man to split the atom? You will find out this and much more in this Installment of Keys of Knowledge!

“The Crystallized Killers”

A new element has been discovered! Doctor Solar had been experimenting with high-energy beams in his laboratory when a crystalized structure began to appear. Layer on top of layer, the geod hardened from the void. This was a great break in Solar’s research and a boon for the Atom Valley facilities in general.

If he could reproduce his methods, the US Government would increase funding a thousandfold. But what was this crystal-like material? Two hours later Dr. Clarkson would have a peer on the phone who specializes in Crystallography. Mr. Wolson was top in the field and the only one who could give Solar a definite answer. The only problem was Wolson was many miles away. Early the next morning, Doctor Solar was on a private plane flying to New York. What was the mysterious element? If it could benefit mankind no distance was far enough to travel!

“Teleportation”

Teleportation? Electrical impulses? What is that you’re saying, Professor Harbinger?! In the future, anything is possible. Even the science of sending one’s molecules through waves of electricity. In this segment, our good Professor gives the elevator-pitch on teleportation. Has he been watching too much Star Trek?

“The New Man Of The Atom”

Does the interloper work for the Atom Valley nuclear laboratories? That question weighed heavily on the criminal mastermind known as Nuro. As he studies recent events, Nuro soon realizes the same man has thwarted his schemes multiple times. Who was he? It was obvious the do-gooder was no ordinary man. The mysterious stranger had the ability to control energy and matter!

Elsewhere, in Doctor Solar’s laboratory, scientist Gail Sanders has finally been let in on the big secret. After Solar’s recent health concerns, Dr. Clarkson thought it best she know why her colleague had been so distant towards her. With the rising threat of an outsider learning the identity of the atomic man, they all agreed it was time to create a disguise for Doctor Solar. But, was it too little too late?

“Keys Of Knowledge No.06 – Beginning The Atomic Age”

How did the Atomic Age begin? What part did  Enrico Fermi play in the development of the atomic bomb? These are some of the questions answered in part six of the Keys of Knowledge!

Reviewer Notes

Nuro has put two and two together, so Doctor Solar’s breaks out his new costume. We also get a glimpse into the good old days of corporal punishment. For those youngsters out there, the “chair” is mid-century American slang for executing prisoners with an electric chair. Old Sparky for short.

This was a fun issue with a bunch of scientific knowledge being thrown around. I love the retro art by Bob Fujitani and Solar’s Science Forum has some hard-hitting questions from the readers. I give issue #5 five out of five stars!
