“The Night Of Doom”
After the destruction of the Fantastic Four’s downtown high-rise the family has split up to recuperate and do some reflective soul searching. Ben Grimm and his wife Alicia left New York on an extended road trip. Their current whereabouts are somewhere in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Reed and Sue have found a little secluded spot of their own to unwind in.
A few weeks have now passed and Susan Storm is beginning to feel a bit homesick. The small towns in the northeast are interesting but a little dull at times. One day Sue decides to write her good friend Jennifer Walters a letter. The words come quickly as Sue writes down her thoughts on some eloquent motel stationary. Days later an envelope will arrive at Jennifer’s upper East Side apartment with the tale called “The Night of Doom”.
What happens when an archenemy sets a trap that is never sprung? How does an elderly woman earn such admiration from a narcissistic mastermind? Did Reed Richards just squish his face into a new identity? Collect the series to find out!
Reviewer Notes
I said this before but I will say it again, Ryan North was the perfect pick to take over the Fantastic Four. I have been a fan of his since his work on the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl series. I’m pleased to see that Ryan jumps right in and gives us two amazing stories right off the bat. After the previous crossover event, followed by the invasion of the Fantastic Four’s headquarters, I’m glad we are getting back to the basics.
In my opinion, Marvel has relied too heavily on gimmicks like global scale crossover events, one page splash art, and alternative covers. They need to focus their money on hiring talented writers. The stories are the base for which everything else is built. No offense to the cover artists out there.
The Fantastic Four has a great new team steering the ship. With the likes of Ryan North, Iban Coello, and Jesus Aburtov I have faith volume seven of this series will be worth the investment. If you are a fan and have thought about collecting the Fantastic Four again, this is the place to start. I’m giving issue number two 5 elastic faces out of 5.
