Review

After several guest appearances in other titles, Marvel Comics would give Steve Gerber’s feathered creation his very own series in 1975. Howard the Duck launched in October of that year and would go on to be one of the company’s strangest publications. Steve Gerber was a unique writer for his time. He would also become famous for the legal cases filed against Marvel Comics, as he fought to maintain control of his own creation.

This would not fare well for Gerber, but Howard the Duck would find publication in both comic book and newspaper format. Issue number one is as relevant today as it was 45 years ago. I give it four out of five stars.
