“Beware The Sacred Sons Of Set!”
A mysterious sorcerer named Karanthes has offered Red Sonja a king’s ransom in gemstones. But what task must the Hyrkanian She-Devil do to earn this life-changing fortune? Simple. Infiltrate a heavily guarded house of relics in the city of Messantia, then recover a single page from a coveted spell book. No big deal for a slayer such as her. Or is it?
Days later, Red Sonja is being chased through the Messantia sewer system by mutant beasts made from the sorcery of Set. Swordless, and with her back against the wall, the red-haired adventurer will need to rely on wits to escape this murky trap. Just don’t open your mouth in the water, Red Sonja. Just don’t open your mouth.
Will Red Sonja find the missing page from the Iron-Bound Book of Skelos? Is the urban legend of crocodiles living in the sewers of Messantia just a story to scare children? Does Conan the Barbarian truly run from every fight? Collect the series to find out!
Note: Conan and Bêlit enter this event in the pages of Conan the Barbarian No.66 (1976). Red Sonja appears in the crypt on the last page of that issue. The crossover event continues in Conan the Barbarian No.67 (1976).
Review
This has to be my favorite Frank Thorne artwork in the Marvel Feature series, hands down. Everything about this comic is perfect. From the mutant creatures, fight scenes, and landscape views of Messantia. I would put Frank Thorne’s art up against Kirby or McFarlane any day of the week.
With Roy Thomas as story writer, this is easily a five-star book. Get Marvel Feature No.06 before the prices go up. It’s a keeper!
