What Lies In The Mists
The Sorcerer Supreme of the Dark Dimension, Tony Stark, has opened a gateway to Valtorr’s demonic realm but the Sorcerer Supreme from Earth, Clea, has placed one major roadblock in the way of the Midnight Suns. Wolverine, Magik, Blade, Nicu, and Spirit Rider must battle one of the most feared entities from the Dark Dimension, the G’uranthic Guardian!
The stone guardian stands as tall as a ten story building, with six massive arms, and a cycloptic eye radiating crimson energy. The team attacks from every direction as a corporeal Tony Stark grows inpatient, trading insults with Blade and Wolverine. As blows are traded between the heroes and dark guardian, Magik begins to unravel the weaknesses of the giant. It comes a little too late as Wolverine is caught in the intense eye beam of G’uranthic. Logan’s willpower is about to be drained from his mutant body!
Back on Earth, in the crypts under the Saint Louis cemetery, Agatha Harkness and Zoe Laveau stand guard over the Black Mirror. On the other side of their reflection waits Valtorr’s general and massive invasion force of Demons. Zoe is ready to destroy the mirror but Agatha has some bizarre change of heart. In fact, Zoe just realizes her teacher has not been acting herself for a while now.
Is the Sorcerer Supreme version of Tony Stark as arrogant and irritating as Earth 616’s Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist? Will Valtorr kill the last remaining sacrifice given to him by Agatha’s coven? Can Wolverine survive the “Gaze of G’uranthic”? Collect the series to find out!
Reviewer Notes
I like the double page fight screen with G’uranthic, and I think the art is top notch, but how long is Ethan Sacks going to stretch this story out for? I feel they could have forgone with some of the large panel art and combined issue #3 and #4 together in one book. Come on Marvel, I have a dollar waiting on a dime here.
Back in the good ol days we used to get a lot of content for our $1.25, just saying. I like the series, but issue four really doesn’t advance the story very far. I’m going with a 3 out of 5 star rating here. Maybe it’s time to invoke the “Fast Forward of Forth’ward”?
