Night Force – Volume 03 Issue 04

Night Force – Volume 03 Issue 04

My Rating

Rating: 4 out of 5.

“The Dying”

Professor Donovan Caine lay dying on his hospital bed but the room is different. He remembers being in Washington DC General Hospital, now his surroundings look very different. Baron Winters! A burst of adrenaline brings Donovan out of his chemo induced haze. He sits up and begins to berate his former Night Force controller for events that happened decades ago.

The Baron is sympathetic, but he needs information on the Gatherers. In all his research he can only find one reference to the name; Professor Caine, on the other hand, knows the monsters through his own family history. Over the next hour Professor Donovan Caine will brief Baron Winters on two-hundred years of information. There is only one question that still remains. How are the monsters finding their way into Wintersgate Manor?

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Sgt. Jim Duffy and Zoe Davis have returned again to the Duffy house in search of new clues. Before their investigation can produce any answers the room begins to shift in view. They now stand in the 1956 version of the same home office. Jim Duffy Jr mouth goes slack as he realizes this is his father’s room. The same room he was attacked by the disembodied shadow creatures.

Is the Baron more than an observer in the case of the Gatherers? Will the Night Force need to travel back to 1648 London England to interrogate the witch known as Kassandra Fey? Can Professor Donovan Caine survive another encounter with the supernatural? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

Lookout Baron Winters, Kassandra Fey is coming for you! The backstory for the Gatherers is revealed in this issue. Are they Demons? Maybe they are aliens? Those details are still a little fuzzy however. Marv Wolfman is the king of stringing out storylines. Come on, Marv.

The artwork by Tom Mandrake and Wes Hartman is the best part of the issue, and really outshined the previous volumes of Night Force. Marv Wolfman was lucky to get these guys. I love the greens!

Overall this story is really tight, so I’m giving it four out of five stars. If you are a horror comics fan, or just a DC Comics fan in general, I recommend Volume 3 of Night Force. The Kassandra Fey character is my favorite villain in this series by a mile. Only three books to go.
