The Last Ronin Graphic Novel
My Rating

Rating: 5 out of 5.

“Part 01 – Wish For Death”

Decades have passed and with it the downfall of society. As law and order faded from the streets of every American city, criminal organizations began to fight among themselves for control. In New York City, the infamous Foot Clan slaughtered all who resisted. Now, in the year 2051, the grandson of Oroku Saki, the villainous Shredder, reigns with an iron fist. But a ghost from Hiroto’s past has returned to set things right.

A score will be settled. A family feud must end with righteous indignation. For one mutant turtle, the death of his three brothers and father must be avenged. Welcome to the world of the future. A toxic landscape of pollution and high-tech miracles which fly above decaying skyscrapers. This is the saga of the Last Ronin.

“Part 02 – First To Fall”

The battle was intense, the Last Ronin reaching his mark, but old technology intervened, sending the mutant assassin toppling from the tower of Oroku Hiroto. His last thoughts were of failure and the deaths of his family. This couldn’t be the way things ended. No!

Days later the turtle’s eyes opened to strange surroundings. A medical bay? But where? Before his question could be answered, a familiar face appeared before him. April? April O’Neil? Was this reality or had he finally gone completely insane? The Last Ronin would be given a second chance to avenge the Hamato Clan.

“Part 03 – Fight Or Flight”

Martial Law has been enacted on the streets of Rock Bottom. Far below in the city sewers, the Last Ronin has received a much-needed history lesson. From the death of his family, to the current underground resistance, much has changed since the good old days of New York City. But how will the scrap remains of the Fugitoid help bring the downfall of the Shredder’s legacy? Over the next 24 hours, the mutant turtle will find out…

“Part 04 – Blood In The Snow”

The fall of friends, family, and clans. In the long-forgotten turtle lair, April O’Neil finally learns the fate of Donatello and Master Splinter. The Ronin reveals many things, but secrets are not his alone to share. Casey Marie has been exposed to the same biological mutations as those she once dreamed about meeting. April shares the DNA data in confidence, but will a promise be kept?

Hours later, the former home of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is packed wall to wall with resistance members and their generals. It’s time to bring the fight to those who suppress the freedoms of future New Yorkers. The target is not what the Last Ronin has agreed to. No matter, the decision is not his to make. The final turtle is just along for the ride.

“Part 05 – The Last Ronin”

Power outage! Strike now or forever hold your peace. With Oroku Hiroto’s army of robots and synjas disabled, the Last Ronin races to the burning tower to finish what he had returned to Manhattan to do; finish the century-old war between clans by avenging his family’s honor. With the resistance cut to pieces and the flooded sewers trapping many friends below, this mission will be his to win. What four turtles began sixteen years ago, only one remains to finish their quest.

Reviewer Notes

Decades have passed since Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird introduced four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to the world. In that time, we have seen them grow in both skill and wisdom, but nothing from their past could prepare one for the loss of the others. This is the story of the Last Ronin – a brother who returns home to end a war his father did not begin. It’s a tale of revenge and family honor. An epic journey to find eternal peace with the time he has left. This is the story of a ninja warrior.

I’m not going to lie here. This five-part miniseries will be an emotional rollercoaster for any fan out there who grew up following the Turtles. It’s an ending I wish never took place, but a damn fine one, nonetheless. As I’m late to the game here – with this graphic novel being released three years prior, I see there is already a follow-up storyline planned for release in July 2025. If you decide to read this book, I suggest preordering the next installment. The Last Ronin gets five stars from me across the board.
