“Riddle Of The Raids”
Samson spent most of the afternoon exploring the ruins inside N’Yark’s lower east side with Sharmaine and her father Mindor. Mindor was fascinated with the relics of the old world and had become very knowledgeable of their workings both mechanically and scientifically. In fact his scholastic obsession with the ancient books of American libraries had increased his knowledge of science beyond that of most humans in the N’Yark territory. However, when the disk-like object flew overhead the three explorers, Mindor was just as perplexed as his younger counterparts.
It was an aircraft, that was for sure. But Mindor had never seen any designs like that in all of the old world books he had ever studied. I floated as if it was defying gravity. As the flying machine tilted on its center access the three could see a figure moving within the glass dome located in center mass. But who or what was piloting such a scientific wonder. Before Samson could coax an explanation from Mindor, several heavy stones hit the strongman in the head. It was the Kull the Killer and his exiled gang of wasteland bandits!
What is the mysterious flying disk which patrols the skies over the ruined city of N’Yark? Is there an ancient monster crawling underneath the grounds of Gran Centr’l Statio? Why are Kull’s bandits carrying large red boxes out of a toppled warehouse building?
“The Maid Of Mystery”
Kull the Killer and his thugs have allied themselves with the mysterious flying saucer pilot! But, for what purpose? Could it be to control the source of Atomic Batteries recently found near Gran Centr’l Statio? Samson must investigate the Jerz shore so Mindor can evaluate the threat. Next stop, the crumbling wonder known as the George Washington bridge.
Will the Mighty Samson make it across the Huzon river or be devoured by the monsters within the muddy waters below? Who is the mysterious woman that has joined forces with the exiles of the N’yark territory? Can Mindo find a way to light the ancient city once again? Collect the series to find out!

Ugh, the Jerz shore survived the nuclear holocaust but N’Yark pizza didn’t? What gives, Gold Key? Thanks to Otto Bender for allowing future generations of Snooki spawn to procreate!
The science fiction setting of a post-apocalyptic Earth really phased out during the late 1980s, which is too bad as it was one of my favorite genres as a kid. With such great movie franchises as the Planet of the Apes and Road Warrior, as well as Saturday morning cartoons like Thundar the Barbarian and the Herculoids, I really loved seeing future antagonists rediscovering the wrecked cities and mangled fragments of national monuments. I ate this stuff up like candy. With the Mighty Samson, readers get all that plus mutant plant and animal monsters that any Godzilla fan would adore. This series truly was the Pokimon of its day. I love the art of Frank Thorne in these early Gold Key comic books. The fight scene between Samson and the giant snapping turtle made my day. Oh, and don’t forget about the weirdness of the Octosaur. If you are into vintage comic book art, you definitely want to check this series out. I’m giving issue two of the Mighty Samson a four out of five stars. UFOs and giant vampire bats equal rating boosts, in my humble opinion
