The Monster Of Frankenstein – Volume 01 Issue 06

My Rating

Rating: 4 out of 5.

“–In Search Of The Last Frankenstein!”

The village of Ingolstadt – Switzerland, the monster has returned to his origins seeking the last known survivor of the Frankenstein family bloodline. As he searches the mountainside for a trail leading to the castle perch, strange events are happening inside the village prison. An old gypsy horse-thief has gone missing from Colonel Blackstone’s holding cells, but there is no evidence of escape.

This makes several disappearances in the last month alone. Before a young Leftenant can file a report on the incident, the Colonel arrives on the scene. “This must stop,” Blackstone barked. “I want this investigated immediately!” The Leftenant races off with the order, mounting his horse in the courtyard, then riding off towards the mountain pathways.

Will Frankenstein’s Monster find his resolution inside the abandoned halls of his master’s castle? What has become of all of the prisoners missing from the Ingolstadt prison? Is there something lurking in the depths of the Frankenstein dungeon? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

When you think of classic horror, nothing can beat the gold standard of Dracula, Frankenstein,  and the Wolfman. When it comes to 1970’s horror comics, Marvel was at the top of their game with books like this. The creative team of writer Gary Friedrich and artist Mike Ploog were truly amazing at bringing the Marvel fans consistent quality storyline and artwork.

Even in the 19th century, there were plenty of bad guys to cause mayhem and dismay within the Marvel Universe. For the man in the iron mask here, his psychopathic lunacy created a high-level threat that contends with the Frankenstein Monster’s brutal strength. Thanks to an unknown monstrous force, of course (read the book).

I’m giving this issue four out of five stars. I recommend this series to any vintage Marvel fan out there. Mike Ploog’s art alone sells this book. We were just lucky to have this combination of all-stars at Marvel at the right place and the right time.
