My Rating

Rating: 4 out of 5.

A Lost Kingdom

Asgard – Kingdom of the Asgardians, home to an innumerable list of heroes and wise thinkers; not a day goes by in this realm where a good deed is not performed. On this day – in the year 1982, however, an old storyteller sours the ear of the not so wise trickster god. Loki retreats from the amphitheater where the children came to learn the history of their ancestors. The brother of Thor has just felt the barb of the old fool’s praises to the thunder God. If the honey covered words were not bad enough, the elder insulted Loki with his condemnation.

In a flash of sparks and yellow smoke, Loki speeds fast towards the realm of the Norn Queen. Her magic stones are the key to launching his newest revenge plot upon the decadence of Asgard. Loki’s arrogant brother and their aloof father will pay for ignoring their kindred. Now to collect upon a favor owed by the ruler of Karnilla.

Midgard (Earth) – in a Manhattan apartment, Dr. Donald Blake is finishing the Daily Bugle when breaking news on the television interrupts his concentration. Two enormous meteors have splashed down north of Eastern Island. The impact has generated a tidal wave which will hit the small island community within the hour. Dr. Blake rushes towards the door. With the Avengers on various assignments it will be up to the Mighty Thor to aid the islanders. Outside Dr. Blake taps his wooden walking stick and in a flash an Asgardian champion is revealed!

Will Thor be able to stop an unstoppable force of nature? What ally has Loki rescued from the barren waste of Nastrond? Has the Norn Queen foreseen the fate of the trickster god and his plot to seek revenge? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

This is my first venture into Thor territory since I collected comics in the 1980’s. This was a fun look back to the good old days of lofty Asgardian speak and far off realms of elemental giants. I forgot about the whole Dr. Blake disguise element which Thor used to hide among us Midgardians. Poor Mjölnir has to masquerade as well.

The cover of Thor 318 is what caught my eye and enticed me into this purchase. Gil Kane is the artist who made the Easter Island statues pop on the cover. Unfortunately, Thor faces more than some rogue stone work. Aim for the fences, Thor Odinson!  I would recommend getting this issue if you are a fan of Thor. I’m giving this one 4 out of 5 stars.
