Thunder Bunny – Volume 01 Issue 01

Thunder Bunny – Volume 01 Issue 01

My Rating

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Rabbit Trapped

Bobby Caswell always wanted to be a superhero. He dreamed about it all of his life. Then over summer vacation he had a little accident involving an alien spaceship. Wait, what?! Now he must put the comic books away and go to school. The only problem is Bobby now looks like a seven foot tall alien bunny in tights and a cape!

Can Earth’s newest superhero pull a boy out of a hat before the first period class bell rings? Will the mysterious Doctor Bar-Ko help Bobby find his inner self? If a rabbit claps in the forest does it make a sound?

The Greatest Story Ever Sold

Today Bobby’s uncle is taking him to the big auction event at New York’s comic book convention. All the great writers and artists will be there signing autographs. Uncle Al has promised Bobby and his friend front row seats at the auction. Little do they know that a group of villains are about to turn the event upside-down.

What is the rarest book being auctioned off today? Did that kid just call Thunder Bunny Captain Carrot? Which Marvel Comics villains do the thieves dress as? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

I’ve been collecting the old Red Circle Comics for a while now and ran across this book recently at a local antiques mall. I had no idea this even existed. It appears that the publisher was looking to compete with DC Comics Captain Carrot and Marvel’s Spider-Ham.

Thunder Bunny is the creation of Martin L. Greim. I would have to say this character is greatly inspired by the Shazam Comics, and the 1981 television series Greatest American Hero as the Thunder Bunny story arch is very similar to both. Boy finds spaceship with mystical box, box turns boy into superhero, boy has secret clap that changes him into superhero.

For what it is, this one-shot is pretty well produced. The writing is well done and not dumbed down for younger readers. The art is top notch for the time it was printed. Thunder Bunny even got a second run of eleven issues in 1985, published by Warped Graphics. If you are a collector of animal based heroes you probably will want this one for your collection. I’m giving the Thunder Bunny one-shot four out of five stars.
