“Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives! – Part 02”
Kate Marsden came to the rainforest of eastern Peru looking for a serial killer who almost drowned her. Now she has awakened inside a strange house after someone attempted to kill her once again. Was it Darwin Collier who forced her head into the dark waters of the Amazon River? Or, maybe it was one of the local villagers? Whoever it was fell victim to something much more savage than a psychopath from the United States.
The image of something large and grotesque flashed through Kate’s mind. Was it a beast from the interior jungle who saved her life, or just a man? With the amount of oxygen lost to her brain, this once brilliant investigative reporter had developed anoxic brain damage. Now Kate began to question everything in her recent memory. It was time for answers, and the person in the next room would certainly have something to go on.
Kate Marsden climbed off the wicker couch where she lay, pulled out the IV tube which had been placed in her arm for fluids, and marched down the hall toward the door marked “laboratory”. Whose laboratory she was about to find out.
Reviewer Notes
This storyline has the feel of a slow burner, yet the creature has shown up twice in two issues. So writer Dan Watters knows exactly what the fans want. Monsters!
The Creature from the Black Lagoon is my favorite of all the Universal horror movies, so I’m hooked no matter what. The big question in my mind now is if this series is going to be tied to the original silver screen movies, the Shape of Water (a reimagining of the classic) released in 2017, or another complete reboot. Until we find out, I will just have to settle for the gorgeous art within.
This issue gets a four out of five star review from me. Image Comics, give more of that sweet creature feature! That’s all we want.
