“Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives! – Part 03”
Doctor Edwin Thompson agreed to let Kate Marsden accompany his expedition into the deep Amazon in search of the elusive monster. There was only one condition; Kate was not to cause any trouble when they reached the Black Lagoon. This seemed fair enough, but the doctor and his assistant knew she was there to stop a serial killer from returning to the United States. Why did Doctor Thompson agree so quickly?
Earlier that day, something had attacked Darwin Collier and his Narcos contacts near the eastern river. Now the crazed ex-marine was aware Kate Marsden, his one victim that got away, had joined the scientist who had been operating in this area for quite some time. But what were they looking for besides a quick death? When night came, he would find out.
What is Doctor Thompson’s motivation in allowing a field reporter with brain damage to follow him into an area filled with Narcos drug lords and a suspected monster from the Paleozoic age? Can Kate Marsden track down and kill a military-trained psychopath who knows the terrain better than the local populace? Will the Amazon survive the mass deforestation brought on by greedy loggers? Collect the series to find out!
Reviewer Notes
I like where this series is going, and I can’t wait for the next issue of Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives. The story has not referenced any of the movies yet, and at this point I don’t think Dan Watters really needs to bother. The surprise ending he came up with for book three is something that I would never have expected. I don’t want to ruin it for anyone, but the Doctor is not the only one who has heard of El Cipactli.
This issue gets a very solid four out of five stars from me. Near the back of the book, Image Comics includes several pages of fan letters. The response to Creature has been very positive indeed. Lookout Titan Comics, the Creature from the Black Lagoon is catching up with your Conan series!
