“Nail In The Coffin”

“A Howling Nightmare”
In the aftermath of the Blood Hunt, brother and sister had reunited in the foothills of Colorado. There, amidst the swooning prairie grass, Jack and Lissa Russell had formed a new kinship with fellow lycanthrope, Jake Gomez. But under the Blood Moon, will their camping trip be one of peace and tranquility? A new nightmare is about to overtake their dreams, whether they like it or not.
Review
I’m a little bummed out by this one-shot issue of Werewolf By Night. Following the success of Marvel’s recent “Werewolf By Night: Red Band” miniseries, Jack Russell has returned in Blood Moon Rising; a very disjointed and uninspiring exercise, leaving one to think “why did they even do this?” I could be wrong here, but, I believe story number one follows a teenage Jack Russell, who faces off with two iconic Marvel Monsters in a battle of wills.
Story two, in my opinion, would be more interesting if writer Jason Loo had the whole book to flesh out his ideas. No offense to Michael Giacchino, but his story ended way too quickly. I truly would like to know if Giacchino’s story takes place during the original version of Werewolf By Night. Unfortunately, for me, this one-shot is a mere two-star endeavor at best.
