“Return To Sleepy Hollow – Part 02”
Over fifteen years have passed since the Headless Horseman slaughtered prominent members of the Sleepy Hollow community. With no witch to control the restless Hessian, the entire event soon fades into whispered folktales and sullen dreams. Under the leadership of Katrina Van Tassel, the village has grown from a small farming community into a proper township.
Today, two Constables from Sleepy Hollow have been assigned to the Western Woods. Another missing person, one Brennan Mayhew, has raised concerns that a new killer could be on the loose. As the young men search near the pallid Tree of the Dead, in town, the daughter of Ichabod and Katrina has become entranced by spirit voices. The ghosts of the deceased have plagued Lotte for months now. It started as one, then three, further to six, and so on; always tripling, until her fragile mind could take it no more.
This was no parlor trick. Someone or something wanted a return. But a return of what? On this day, more will be revealed. The Western Woods was not finished with the Van Tassel family, nor the paranormal investigator named Ichabod Crane.
Will the Pellant Twins unravel the very fabric of trust the townsfolk have in Katrina Van Tassel? Can Lotte prove her supernatural abilities to a sceptical Masbath? Was the Headless Horseman a real apparition or a product of mass hysteria? Collect the series to find out!
Review
There are a lot of things to unpack in issue two of Return to Sleepy Hollow. I’m uncertain which is more frightening, the haunted plant life or small town gossip. As a kid who spent several years living in small-town America, I will go with the gossip.
Writer Casey Gilly has done a fantastic job so far capturing the feel of Washington Irving’s classic tale. I also must say that I love the art of Savanna Mayer. It is very Tim Burton’esk. She was a perfect pick for this project. I give this book four out of five stars.
