Batman – Volume 01 Issue 351

Batman – Volume 01 Issue 351

My Rating

Rating: 4 out of 5.

“What Stalks The Gotham Night?”

High above the street level a feral set of eyes watches the front entrance to Vicki Vale’s apartment building. This area of Gotham is considered plush by some, but at night the architecture casts shadows giving the buildings a sinister vibe. A familiar Rolls-Royce pulls up to the curb and a couple exits. The eyes focus on the young man’s face.

Dick Grayson puts his arm around Vicki Vale and pulls her in for a kiss. What Vicki doesn’t realize is that it’s a kiss of death. Young Dickie leans in towards her neck, his fangs dripping with rabid saliva. Then a primitive growl comes from above. Dick looks up and across the street to the shadows. Batman is watching, his fangs are displayed in challenge.

Elsewhere, private detectives Jason Bard and James Gordon pay a visit to an after hours photography studio. Upstairs a slimey paparazzi type is busy taking adult photos with a barely legal woman. The man is well known by Gordon. Squeeze the sleaze has had his fingerprints all over Gotham’s lowbrow blackmail cases. Tonight the photographer will answer for Vicki Vale’s exposé pictures. Is Squeeze the man behind the Bruce Wayne photos? The ex-police commissioner sure thinks so.

Does Father Green hold the secret to curing Batman and Robin? Where is the secret refuge of the master vampire, Louis Dubois? Will the Human Target fool Alfred with his bag of disguises?

“Gentlemen Defer Blonds”

Catwoman and an Undercover FBI agent named Paul Henning are fighting on the upper balcony of a Cleveland highrise hotel building. Catwoman wrestles the agent’s 9mm pistol from him and points it in his direction. It’s time to get more acquainted. Agent Henning begins to disclose his involvement in the Candy Carole investigation.

Apparently the city’s most notorious Loan Shark, Jake Marley, was after Candy Carole for gambling debts which her deadbeat husband had racked up. Horse racing was always his downfall. Selina Kyle had disguised herself as Candy to investigate the whereabouts of $500,000 stolen in a bank heist. Selina was assaulted by an unfortunate mistake.

Will Agent Henning work with Catwoman to solve the case of the stripper bank robber? How much money does Dwight Powell owe on the street? Will Golden Girl be the next triple crown winner? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

I thought this book was the conclusion to the Monk vampire story arc. Nope, I must track down thy precious Detective Comics #518! Will the Dynamic Duo continue to haunt the earth as agents of the undead? Time to hit eBay and get that book!

Nothing can top the awesomeness of the previous issue, however Batman #351 was a close second. Batman and Robin are full fledged vampires and the battle scenes with the Monk and Dala are very nicely done. I’m not a huge Batman collector, but I do recognize an interesting storyline. If you are a DC Comics horror fan I recommend picking these issues up – even for the Gene Colan and Tony Dezuniga art. I’m giving this issue four out of five stars.
