Late night in Rey Fenton’s apartment, Jennifer Lee has just realized living a promiscuous lifestyle comes with consequences. The men she used for sex before were no angels but kept their exploits secrets. To be honest Jennifer never really cared. Now she as met her match in the form of Rey. The man she believed to be respectable yet open to anything has revealed himself as a sociopath. Jennifer flees into the dark streets of Gotham as the rain begins to fall.

Several hours later Dionisio Viella is caught crawling into Migdalia’s apartment window from the fire escape. The father of her baby is drunk and combative again. He has come to give her money from the recent score, but she wants nothing from him. The Gotham Police where at her door the day before looking for clues on Dion’s whereabouts. She lied to the police of course, but her words lay on deaf ears. The man she once loved no longer loves her. Batman is a bigger concern to Dion than his wife and child.

Day light has come to the Gotham slums. An ailing Joel Mayfield has taken the bus to the one place he shouldn’t be. The police rarely come to this district unless the situation is dire. Naturally this urban decay attracts the sellers of illegal paraphernalia and stolen goods. Joel is here to meet with a man he has reported to the police on more than one occasion. Today the elderly man needs a gun with no questions asked. Joel only hopes he brought enough money for the vultures.

Will Rosemary Hayes have enough courage to engage Frank in conversation today? Can Jimmy Ciccerone forgive his subway friend after she stood him up at the train station? Will Batman find Hector before he ruins the lives of more men trying to amend their lives? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

Warning: Parent Advisory – Explicit Content… This issue goes deep into adult content territory as the story opens with Jennifer and Ray just finishing a one-night stand. There is dialog referencing sex and sexually transmitted diseases. In one scene Jennifer opens a drawer filled with condoms and feminine products as well. Trojan and Maxi received some free advertisement back in 1992. If you don’t want your children exposed to this type of material you will want to skip this one.

Batman, or I should say the Batmobile, is only seen at the beginning of the book. Other than that, Batman: Gotham Nights focuses on continuing stories of the handful of Gothamites. The tension keeps building and that’s what I like about this one. Jimmy, Rosemary, and the Mayfields are the only good souls in this story, but we will see how things play out. I’m giving this one another four out of five stars. If you want some soap opera action in your superhero world, definitely get this miniseries.
