Bêlit & Valeria: Sword Vs. Sorcery – Volume 01 Issue 01

Bêlit & Valeria: Sword Vs. Sorcery – Volume 01 Issue 01

My Rating

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Following the rise of the kingdoms of Hyboria, and before the throne of Aquilonia fell by the Cimmerian with a troubled brow, there was an age of Stygian necromancy. An unto this, Bêlit, pirate queen of the black coast, was raised up from beyond the grave to copulate her way through the lands of Shem. I, her bard and male concubine, claim authority to tell thee of her saga. Let me entertain you with the tales of sword and sorcery!

Reviewer Notes

Warning: This comic book is meant for adult audiences; parents please be advised…

Well, if there is one comic book series that could make Robert E. Howard blush, this is the one. All welcome the return of Bêlit and Valeria! I will say right off the bat, I’m a huge fan of the Conan mythology, but I knew little about the main characters of this series. The Bêlit character, a love interest of Conan the Barbarian, was killed in one of Robert’s pulp fiction stories in the 1930s. This series produced by Ablaze Comics brings Bêlit back from her watery grave.

I will say it again, these books are meant for adult readers, as it contains boss level raunchiness and Niagara Falls amounts of blood. In other words, this series is going to rock! Overall, the writing, the art, and the back history elements make this worth getting for any Conan fan out there.

Ablaze Comics also includes part of Robert E. Howard’s essay on “The Hyborian Age” originally printed in the Phantagraph magazine, during February, August, October, and November of 1936. It appears to me that a section of the essay will be included in each issue of this new series. I can’t wait to crack open the next book.

With all the comedy, action, and history provided in issue one, I’m giving it five out of five stars. Buy this series if you can find it.
