Bêlit & Valeria: Sword Vs. Sorcery – Volume 01 Issue 03

Bêlit & Valeria: Sword Vs. Sorcery – Volume 01 Issue 03

My Rating

Rating: 5 out of 5.

In the current era of high magick, a daughter of the Shemites learns her fate and that of one’s past. The knowledge comes with a high price, as the woman’s second death grows near. The spell-lords came from all corners of Hyperboria, gathered to Sin upon this night and offered sacrifice to their gods, and the avatars of such a divine pantheon which harbor both ape and spider beasts. The queen of pirates thus sees her rebirth through the hands of Hestera of Fallen Wallace. Thine Earth mother is struck down by Crom’s steel, giving upon all women a new age of female empowerment. This chronicling is true, as it is I, Curt, Bard of Bêlit, and thus Valeria, and witness to much of these events.

Reviewer Notes

Warning: This comic book is meant for adult audiences; parents please be advised…

Wow, we have Crom! Yes, the actual God is on a rampage throughout this issue. Anyone want to guess who the riddle keeper looks like? Just don’t ask him to get to the choppa.

This is kind of a confusing read. It took me three attempts but I believe I understand what the writer was implying. The scenes go back and forth between Bêlit’s past, and a weird combination of events at the wizard-fest mixed with Curt the Bard’s flowery imagination. What a tale it is too. I’m going with another 5 out of 5 stars rating.

This is issue also has the conclusion of Robert E. Howard’s essay on “The Hyborian Age” first printed in the Phantagraph magazine 1936. Go get this five book series if you are into Conan.
