The Keening
The afternoon grows warmer as two more Chicago police vehicles arrive on the scene of a hostage situation. Inside the New Kingdom Baptist church an Irish immigrant named Declan Banbridge holds the choir members at gunpoint. Marlon Corbet, of the Challengers of the Unknown fame, has snuck into the building to save his fiancé, but is now a prisoner himself.
Declan’s eyes dart from stain glass window to stain glass window. There is something following him but no one else is able to see the stalker. None accept Marlon. Declan has been hunted from one side of the Atlantic Ocean to the other. The ghostly woman has cornered him this time. Her screams are now becoming audible to the hostages. Then without warning, a huge section of the north facing windows explodes inward! She has arrived!
What secret does the Irishman hide that can trigger the wrath of an elder God? Does the power of Christ negate the laws of the old ways? Will Marlon be able to save his girlfriend before bullets begin to fly? Collect the series to find out!
Reviewer Notes
Wow, another homerun issue for Steven Grant. Irish mythology takes center stage in this one shot storyline. There is a new artist and her art remains top notch. This version of the Challengers of the Unknown is what Marv Wolfman’s Night Force should have been. Another five star review in my opinion.
