Challengers of the Unknown – Volume 03 Issue 16

Challengers of the Unknown – Volume 03 Issue 16

My Rating

Rating: 5 out of 5.

“Today is a Long Time Coming

The old joke goes – “two Challengers of the Unknown walk into a bar…” and the hijinks follow. Clay Brody sits down for a drink at an upscale sports bar somewhere on the north side. He overhears a loud voice in the corner bragging about defeating a creature named Tyrannosaurus X. Brody turns to see who the voice is attached to.

Original Challenger, Leslie “Rocky” Davis, stands in the middle of a crowd of twenty-something women playing up the part of senior adventure and tough guy. The ladies seem totally infatuated with the old man. Clay thinks to himself “boy, this is going to be a long night”. Rocky dismisses his adoring fans and struts over to his younger counterpart. It’s time to trade stories.

Did the original team save John F. Kennedy’s reputation during the Apollo space program? What is the Xeron Empire and how do they know English? Does Rocky Davis really use a ghostwriter to punch up his book? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

This another crossover with the original team of the Challengers of the Unknown. I love how John Paul Leon and Mike Zeck intertwined the art styles of the old series with the shaded cell art of the new series. Steven Grant writes a very compelling retro story based in the 1960s. I’m giving this one five stars.
