“Suffer Not The King Of Wonders – Part 01”
Conan was now a man out of place in a world delivered to him by the strange magics of Thulsa Doom. Moments beforehand, the Cimmerian was entranced by ancient sorcery which pulled his mind into a froth of delusions. He was sent forth into the streets of Shadizar looking for the Pictish blade he once carried. Unbridled murder followed his inquest as the wraiths controlled his every move.
Then, with the sword recovered, another sorcery, not of Stygian make, pulled Conan southeastward to a land untraveled by him. This was the realm of the Tiger King, a vast region of tropical radiance known as Valusia. A Valusia not of Conan’s time, but a kingdom born of Cimmeria’s distant ancestors. This was the domain of King Kull of Atlantis.
For what dark purpose has Conan been sequestered to a land not of his time or place? Will Brule the Spear-slayer listen to reason when there is no reasonable explanation to give? Which is the greater force of power, sword, or axe? Collect the series to find out!
Reviewer Notes
Here we have it, a gathering of Robert E. Howard’s most memorable characters throughout the Hyborian and Thurian age. I know Kull and Conan have crossed paths before, but this seems to be written as their first interaction. Brule has returned as well to give us a bridge to the mighty city of wonders, Valusia nonetheless. What a fun comic book this was.
Titan Comics continues to give Conan fans an unfiltered look into the fantasy world of Hyboria. There are more references to the original stories and source material than any other Conan series I have read so far. This is a must-read for any fan of Conan and Red Sonja out there. I give issue nine of Titan’s Conan the Barbarian five out of five stars.
