“Hallows’ Eve – Issue 02”

What has Janine Godbe gotten herself into this time? With a bag full of magical Halloween masks you would think one would be useful for breaking into a bank vault. Nope! Bank security is still Bank security. In a last minute decision Janine chose the Werewolf Mask to frighten one of the guards long enough to escape. To bad for one Simon Carter, as the tiniest scratch from the Werewolf Janine has infected his with Lycanthropy.

Two days later at the Beyond Corporation – New York City, a team of geneticists are busy running DNA tests on a fur sample collected from the bank vault. Director Maxine Danger has taken a special interest in this particular case due to the police report. According to eyewitnesses a monster resembling a werewolf attacked a security guard and both are now missing.

If only the Beyond Corporation could map out the complete DNA sequences of the Lunar-lupine virus, the military applications could be limitless. Think of the medical benefits of such a discovery.  Maxine’s flights of fantasy will have to wait, as one of her lab workers announces a familiar genome pattern. It is that of Janine Godbe. Maxine thinks to herself, how the hell did Janine get her blood mixed with werewolf fur?

Which Mask will Janine use next to help track down the missing security guard? Has Detective Shari Sebbens found a clue leading her to the bank robber? Which precinct does Police Officer Reilly come from? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

I’m not sure what to say about this one. Since I don’t know the backstory on any of these characters or the places. It seems the Beyond Corporation is the main antagonist in this story. Are they in league with Project Purgatory? What is Project Purgatory anyway?

To me the only interesting part of this title so far is the bag of masks. I do have one question about the Vampire Mask. Janine Godbe turns herself into a vampire and flies to the Moonlight Marina in order to save the security guard. This all takes place in the daytime. Why didn’t Janine go up in cindering flames? The Mask is supposed to follow all the laws of the monster it represents. This kind of bugged me a bit.

Overall the writing is well done. The art is awesome, I love the main cover especially. Werewolves are my spirit animal. Since Marvel is expecting new readers to know the  backstories of previous titles (we could have really used a brief recap on places and events) I’m giving Hallows’ Eve No.2 three out of five stars.
