Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead!

There was one woman in the township of Salem that all the bachelors avoided. Henrietta Hanks was the lass saddled with a very sour disposition. Her looks were very plain as well. What man would fall for her? Not even the rugged redhead Edward Reeves, a man who walked with every girl in the village. Henrietta swore under baited breath to sell her soul for just one man.

Not even a minute passed when Dame Magus crossed Henrietta’s path. It was as if the elderly woman had heard her plea. Dame Magus invited the bitter young woman to her barn, the time two minutes after midnight. It dawned on Henrietta. Dame Magus was a witch!

Will the devil give Henrietta her due? Can one man satisfy the loved starved puritan? What would make the dead smile?

Reunion

Daniel Morton and Cleo Drake were the perfect couple. All of their friends said they were the happiest lovers they have ever seen. Then tragedy struck. Just days before the two were set to wed, the young woman drowned in a tragic boating accident off the shores of Crab Island.

U.S. Coast Guard divers searched the ocean for days but were unable to find Cleo’s body. Daniel Morton would spend the next six months searching on his own but his depression began to take a heavy toll. One afternoon Daniel was approached in the nearby fishing village by Tony and Nadia. Tony claimed Nadia had a message for Daniel. A message from beyond the grave!

Can the woman named Nadia really contact spirits from beyond the grave? How much is Daniel willing to pay to say his last goodbyes? Is there room for two inside the mind of a spiritual psychic?

Ghostly Gallery (text only story)

A famous movie producer once paid to relocate an entire castle, brick by brick, from the Scotland highlands to the western United States. Years would pass before the property would change hands to millionaire philanthropist, Jim Davis. Jim had big plans to turn the castle into a haunted tourist trap. Now all he needed was some young go-getters to help manage the business venture.

Can Ben help convince the first group of  guests to stay a full night with the ghosts? Will a disembodied voice convince Ben and Eileen Kelly to marry? Does the couple believe in past life regression? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

We have Ditko! I have to admit when I am wrong. From my research, Steve Ditko was supposed to begin drawing on Haunted Love in issue number five. Nope, he is an issue early (see Ding Dong The Witch is Dead). I’m glad to see some variations in the art styles within these anthology style comic books.

I like Joe Staton’s artwork, but I think Ditko’s panel layouts are much better. Steve also adds more details using cross hatching. I’m not a huge fan of the technique when it’s over used. Done correctly,  it makes the art pop that much more.

I have no complaints about the shoddy endings in this issue. Nicola Cuti did not contribute this time. Bonus!

If you are a Ditko fan I would recommend getting this issue. He puts the details in the devil, literally. Now if only Charlton would disclose the writer of story number three. In the meantime I’m giving this issue four out of five stars.
