Time, the one thing that can’t be stopped. Not even the cavalcade of devils and demons, claimed allies of Aleister Crowley, have the power to stay history. Minky Woodcock would survive her experience at Esopus Island, but her friend H.P. Lovecraft would not. After a stint of night terrors and a rocky marriage, the famed writer would die not from the slimy beasts he made famous in his writings, but of cancer.
Over the next sixteen years, the story of Minky would march forward, leaving more friends and family by the wayside. Aleister Crowley, however, always seemed to reappear at the most unforeseen times. It was as if destiny had tied Minky and her world to the Beast, some way, somehow. Was it mere chance or those same demons who seem to grace Crowley’s many financial revivals? As the globe is drawn into the next world war, many things will change for Minky Woodcock and her motley band of friends and allies.
Will Minky be able to track down her friend Gladys’ brother in the chaos that is the British military draft? Who is the better murder mystery writer? Can Aliester Crowly find a publisher for his famed tarot deck? Collect the series to find out!
Reviewer Notes
There is so much to unpack in this issue of Minky Woodcock. History seems to be Cynthia von Buhler’s passion, and it’s clear, as every detail has been thoroughly researched here. I had to chuckle when I found that she was tying Operation Mincemeat into the Minky mythos. It truly was one of the biggest gambles pulled off by British military intelligence. I praise Buhler for this one! Issue #3 gets a wholehearted five out of five stars from me.
