“The Nurses”

Sgt. Duffy and Zoe Davis have arrived at the  home of Jim Duffy Sr to search through a library of documents regarding missing children cases collected over the past seventy years. Sgt. Duffy’s father had discovered a clue that linked all of the abductions as far back as the 18th century. The break had come when the Duffy family visited a Museum exhibit in Barcelona,  Spain. The crescent-shaped birthmark had been reported in everyone one of these cases.

Zoe also learns of a man called Simon Talman, classified in modern psychology as a classic serial killer, but the man’s description has been reported in several police reports going as far back as 1852. How can this be? And who are the Gatherers? The name has been recorded in even older documents starting in 1799. Baron Winters has some explaining to do.

Wintersgate Manor, three hours later, Senator Brian W. Greene stands in awe as he walks through the front door of his campaign office only to find himself standing in the library of Baron Winters. “Where the hell am I”, the Senator yells. Unknown to the man, Baron Winters has been tracking Senator Greene’s for quite some time. The Gatherers have been manipulating American politics for over one-hundred years. Greene has been chosen to become the newest member of Night Force.

Before Baron Winters can finish his formal invitation to the Senator, a bright green light encompasses the politician. Senator Greene screams out as his body quickly fades into nothingness. “How the hell do the Gatherers continue to breach Wintersgate?!” The Baron storms off towards his study. It’s time to call in a favor!

Who or what is the man calling himself Simon Talman? Why is Senator Brian W. Greene having so many migraine headaches? How are the Gatherers breaching Baron Winters magical defenses? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

Damn. I thought American politics were messed up before I read this issue. Right-wing vs Left-wing, Demons vs Angels, it’s all the same. Whoever the Gatherers are, they’ve been messing with our country since it’s foundation.

A lot is revealed in issue three. I really did enjoy this one, as we get more time jumping facts and clues. The ending of this book is quite disturbing, and probably not for little readers. I’m giving this issue four out of five stars. Marv Wolfman might have done things right. Keeping my retroactive fingers crossed.
