“The Evolution”
The smoke from Senator Greene’s estate could be seen for several miles across the city of Washington DC. The Gatherers had set the mansion on fire to cover up the existence of their secret society and kill any loose end still breathing inside the complex. Sgt. Jim Duffy Jr was chief among the unconscious bodies left to roast for their interference. As firefighters from Fire Engine Company 32 proceeded to chop through the heavy wooden front doors at least one person was still able to yell out in panic.
London England – 1648 AD, deep inside the decrepit insane asylum which held the witch Kassandra Fey, Baron Winters and his leopard Merlin try in vain to bash through the door leading out of the prison cell. What the two fail to remember was the fact Simon Talman had bricked up the other side of the doorway. No one was getting in or out of the cellar now without explosives or magic. What the Baron needed now was a pentagram, but he had no chalk to draw with. As Merlin growls his disdain, Baron Winters looks around at all the dead bodies strewn across the floor. A sinister idea pops into his head. Time to get to work!
Inside Wintersgate Manor – 2012 AD, a dying Simon Talman enters through the front door. His physical life was quickly coming to an end. It mattered little. The Gatherers had sent him there with a plan to search across time itself for Dormants to impregnate. With the Baron dead all the doorways inside Wintersgate were left unguarded. The Gatherers could now traverse time and speed up the birth of Generation-12 babies one hundred-fold.
Simon begins to walk up the winding staircase towards the second floor of the manor house but falls dead within five steps. Black shadows begin to erupt up and out of the serial killer’s body. These shadows were the consumed souls of hundreds of darkling babies, each one now racing off through the hallways of Wintersgate Manor in search of open time portals.
Will the Firefighters of Fire Engine Company 32 rescue the unconscious Jim Duffy before Senator Greene’s mansion is engulfed in flames? When was the last time Baron Winters performed a manual labor task? What is the destination of the witch Kassandra Fey? Collect the series to find out!
Reviewer Notes
This is it! The plot is fully revealed, and it spans across several hundred years of history. Did you know George Washington was a dormant with major psychic energies? Me either. I don’t want to reveal too much for those who wish to read the story for themselves. I will just say this is the best book in the series so far.
Kassandra is one badass witch, if you want to call her a witch. Marv Wolfman goes into some pretty good details on how she escapes London and makes her way to the New World. I’m not sure if her powers match those of the Enchantress character, but she f@*ks up Barbados. Baron Winters has finally met his match. I’m giving this issue five out of five stars.
