“All I Need To Do Is Kill It”
Inside a secret C.I.A. meeting facility – New York City, Maria Hill has just finished briefing various department heads within the intelligence community. Her news about Reed Richards’ Skrull detectors was not well received. There is no questioning S.H.I.E.L.D. researcher’s latest findings, however. The Skrull infiltrators have discovered a way to trick the scanning process.
Maria takes a private elevator from the 28th floor down into the sub-basement of the New York high-rise building. There, various prisoners are being held for interrogation purposes. Maria passes through several security checkpoints then enters a small holding area. Inside, a Skrull woman is locked behind a high-tech prison cell door. The Skrull meets Maria’s smile with a hideous scowl. The tinted security glass makes the alien’s face look even more sinister. It’s time for the prisoner to share what she knows about shapeshifter evasion techniques.
Will Earth’s greatest minds develop a new way to detect the Skrull infiltrators? Which Avengers have been compromised since the second invasion has begun? Is that really the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl in the debriefing room? Collect the series to find out!
Reviewer Notes
Wow, well this one was very short. We get some flashback scenes involving the first Secret Invasion of 2008. Squirrel Girl makes a cameo appearance in an Avengers briefing scene. I’m not sure if she will play a bigger role in the story, but she helped Tony Stark thwart a second Skrull invasion back in 2018 (see the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl series, issues 37-40, for details).
Hopefully next month we learn the motives behind yet another invasion. Can’t they just leave Earth alone? Come on, don’t invade the Earth, bra! I’m giving issue number two of Secret Invasion a reluctant 4 stars rating. See you next month.
