“Signs”
Boston, Massachusetts somewhere near Jared Stevens’ slum apartment building, the sounds of heavy footsteps can be heard rounding the street corner. It is Fate running in full panic mode. Behind him a hoard of giant sewer rats give chase. Jared snatches a cellphone from a passing tourist in an attempt to call Arnold Burnsteel. Can the emissary to the Lords of Order talk and run at the same time?
Somewhere else deep in space, the Sentinel Alan Scott, arrives at the altar of the Conclave. The facility seems almost infinite in scale but Alan’s powers make quick work in navigating the corridors. He is here for help and his target is the artifacts of Fate. Alan believes he is the proper inheritor and Jared Stevens stands in the way of destiny.
Back on Earth Jared is at his wits end. Not only is there a ravaging horde of rats about to devour him, but a woman claiming to be Arnie’s sister is playing phone tag with him. Who is she really? Can she answer a simple question about pestilence? Too late! Fate is now in free fall off a multi-story building.
How did Senator Clain return from the dead without media coverage? What’s with the rat pack? Can Jared Stevens win friends and influence people? Collect the series to find out.
Reviewer Notes
This is another fun filled issue with some supernatural hijinks. Book of Fate #7 is considered a key issue (the first appearance of Vera Burnsteel). I’m enjoying this version of Dr. Fate. Hopefully the Jared Stevens version finds his way into the DCU movies at some point.
