Reviewer Notes

Sometime around December 1948, Atlas Comics (Marvel) began notifying their readers that they were consulting with a psychiatrist from the Child Guidance Bureau and Board of Education, located in New York City. Jean Thompson M.D. was her name. Was this some pre-Comics Code Authority (CCA) shakedown, or a ruse cooked up by Stan Lee?  It’s a bizarre move since the Venus comic book series was so milk-toast compared to some of the other publications on the market at the time.

To make things even more odd, Venus #03 includes a hardcore police crime story, written for an adult audience. It’s very out of place compared to the other stories presented here. Why would young girls want to read a story of this nature?

No matter. It was fun to see men and women still having issues understanding each other. I give this issue three out of five stars. Go, Venus!
