Beginnings
Even though the origins of lycanthropy have been clouded over time, several details have been uncovered in regards to werewolves. Through the use of sorcery and unearthed texts it is now known the beginnings started with several wolf gods and their race of wolf-like humanoids around 18,000 BC. Lycanthropy is the supernatural side of the paradox, gifted by such wolf demons as Vârcolac, and the dark one known as Chthon.

The Russell Family Curse
After defeating Dracula in his coffin, the baron of Borgo Pass, Grigory Russoff, freed a young woman named Lydia Varadi from the castle dungeon. Lydia was a werewolf, and after leaving the castle ground she attacked Grigory, afflicting him with the lycanthropy curse. (Werewolf By Night #15, 1972)
September 1898 AD
Bad Moon on the Rise
Somewhere off the Scandinavian coast, the Monster of Frankenstein rescues a bound woman from a watery grave. The local village had set the woman a adrift in a fjord on a burning ship. The Monster intervenes, falls in love the with woman, but eventually discovers she is a werewolf in disguise.
It is confirmed that silver kills werewolves when the Monster kills the woman with a silver etched sword. The villagers grieve and the Monster continues on his way.

August 1930 AD
The Darkhold Corrupts Another
Gregory Russoff, ancestor to a documented werewolf named Grigori, obtained the infamous Darkhold — a book of transcribed dark magic based on engravings created by Chthon. Gregory would contracted lycanthropy after studying the origins of werewolves within the book. Gregory would later pass the curse to his son, Jack Russell, and granddaughter, Nina Price. August 1945 AD
Capwolf
August 1845 AD – World War II – deep inside the Ardennes Forest, Captain America and the Howling Commandos have been sent on a classified mission to investigate a Nazi bunker thought to house Adolf Hitler himself. On the march to the target location, Steve Rogers and his men are attacked by several werewolves. During the fight Captain America is bitten, leading to him being infected by lycanthropy.

A Gathering Place
A paranormal investigator named Norman Raine rents a room in the village of Cznarnak, Hungary. He came to the Inn for the ghosts, but found a gathering place for werewolves. (Marvel Tales #93, 1949)
July 1953 AD
Flowers & Poetry
In 1953, a big game hunter traveled to Austria to hunt werewolves in the forestlands. One day the man ran into a werewolf reading a book of poetry while sitting on a large bolder. To his shock, the hunter discover the beast was highly intelligent and spoke perfect English. After a heated exchange of insults, the hunter was eaten there after.

Darkhold Revealed
In search of his father’s documents, Jack Russell discovers Gregor Russoff’s prized possession, the infamous Darkhold. After a fight with a mutant woman who had the power to turn flesh into stone, Jack recovered the book from Blackgar Island.

There’s a Cure?!
May 1973 AD – After escaping Joshua Kane’s death hunt, Jack Russell stumbles upon the man’s brother, Luther Kane. The conniving “scientist” claims he has found a cure for certain stages of Lycanthropy. Even though Jack Russell is to far along in the process, his sister Lissa Russell can be saved. There is only one problem, Luther wants the Werewolf by Night to assassinate a business rival.

Spirit of the Wolf
In the summer of 1973, Jack Russell, battled a elemental demon named ‘Krogg’. During the altercation Krogg self-proclaims that he attempted to posses the werewolf, but that form was already occupied by the ‘Spirit of the Wolf’. Did Jack Russell know about the Wolf Spirit before this point in time?

Limbo For The Cure
During a battle with a recently infected werewolf, Janine Godbe – aka Hallows’ Eve, was able to cure Simon Carter with the Werewolf Mask gifted to her by the Limbo Dimension. It’s unknown if this method will cure all lycanthropy victims, or just the ones infected by the Halloween mask. (Hallows’ Eve #4, 2023)
November 2024 AD
Thrall Hound of Chthon
A rag-tag group of cultists had attacked Jack Russell (Werewolf By Night) to kidnap the beast for its dark energies. The villain Deathwatch failed in his mission, but was able to cut a chuck of flesh from the werewolf. The Darkholders were able to use Jack’s DNA to create a super-beast (werewolf) powered by the dark magic of the god Chthon.
