“Florida Man Vs. Hogzilla! – Part 03”
Men go in the boat. Boat goes in the water. Giant f*@king hog springs out of water. Gary’s hog.
The $100,000 reward for killing the largest feral hog in the history of the Florida Everglades is quickly slipping away from Gary Duba. Now that news of Hogzilla has hit the airwaves, every hunter with a rifle and dreams of easy money is heading for Kensington Gardens. Unfortunately for Gary and the boys, they aren’t the only ones closing in on the beast.
The liberal animal rights activists have arrived as well, determined to save Hogzilla before some trigger-happy Florida Man turns the oversized porker into a six-figure payday. The hunt has officially become a circus, and Gary is right where he belongs—in the middle of it.
Can the boys make bank before another hunter claims the reward? Will the activists save Hogzilla from becoming the world’s largest pile of bacon? Only time will tell as Florida Man makes his way through the swampy backcountry and into the manicured neighborhoods of Florida’s wealthy elite. Guns, boats, beer, bad decisions, and one pissed-off giant hog. What could possibly go wrong?
Reviewer Notes
For a straight-up impulse purchase, Florida Man Vs. Hogzilla was a stellar read. I knew absolutely nothing about the series when I picked it up, and sometimes that is the best way to discover a comic book. No expectations. No hype. Just Florida Man and a giant f*@king hog.
If I had to compare the comedy in this series to anything, I would say it is a mixture of Married… with Children, Trailer Park Boys, and the History Channel’s Swamp People. The humor is crude, ridiculous, and completely unapologetic. In other words, exactly what a comic book called Florida Man Vs. Hogzilla should be.
The creative team knows exactly what kind of book they are making and never tries to turn it into something more serious than it needs to be. The absurd characters, Florida stereotypes, outrageous dialogue, and increasingly ridiculous situations all work together. This miniseries was a total blast from beginning to end. Just remember, parents, this one is definitely not for the kids.
I give issue #3 of Florida Man Vs. Hogzilla four out of five stars. The miniseries as a whole earns a very solid four stars as well. There are a ton of other Florida Man books out there, and if they are anywhere near as entertaining as this one, I definitely recommend collecting them.
Now somebody fire up the grill. There’s $100,000 worth of bacon running around the Everglades.
