Blade – Volume 05 Issue 03

My Rating

Rating: 4 out of 5.

“Mother Of Evil – Part 03”

In the grasp of Lord Daido’s demonic tentacles, Blade begins to lose control of his mind. Unfortunately for the Oni, Blade’s focus revolves around his blind rage. From a hidden sheath located inside his coat sleeve, the Daywalker pulls out a specialized dagger. With a quick flick of his wrist Blade stabs the monster’s tongue-appendage causing Daido to release the vampire hunter. In seconds, as Blade turns to walk towards Tulip and Rotha, the shrine is rocked by explosives planted in the dagger handle. That’s one less asshole in the world to deal with.

Later, in a 24-hour noodle restaurant, Tulip gives the scoop on a weapon powerful enough to destroy the Adana demon. A supernatural sword named after Lucifer himself, the Lightbringer. Before Blade’s ex-lover can disclose the full location of the sword, the entire restaurant comes under assault by a force of Ninjas. So much for finishing the Udon noodles.

Will Blade convince the international weapons dealer, Tulip, to aid him in tracking down the Lightbringer weapon? Will a task force from Kamar-Taj subdue the Mother of Evil? Has Armageddon finally reached humanity’s gates? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

After two mediocre issues, Bryan Hill finally kicks things into gear. This Adana demon, or whatever she represents, is nothing to trifle with. It appears magic is but a toy to her, as several high-level practitioners of Mystic Arts fail to bring her to justice.

Is Blade really the only one skilled enough to stop this global threat? Apparently, he needs some supernatural weapon to even complete the task. Something about this whole thing seems fishy to me. Like, is he getting played for the angelic Blade?

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for this series to improve, but in all honesty, it doesn’t compare to the original “Blade: The Vampire-Hunter” series from 1994. I did enjoy this issue, so I will give it four out of five stars. Stay tuned, as I will be reviewing the next issue of Blade very soon.
