“The Keepers Of The Crypt”
On the run from Corinthian Soldiers, Conan seeks shelter inside an abandoned city. Unknown to the Cimmerian, an old adversary from the Battle of Venarium is following from the shadows. The Corinthian Soldier makes ready his sword. Today, he will take revenge against the barbarian for the deaths of his fellow countrymen at the fortress outpost.
It appears Captain Burgun will have to wait. A monstrous lizard has just ambushed Conan near a decrepit fountain adorned with strange gargoyle-like statues. Was Conan the true target of the beast or those relics of another age? Hunger can make any living thing desperate in a time of need. Burgun watches from a distance as the fight unfolds.
Will Captain Burgun get revenge for the fall of Fortress Venarium? What strange creatures lurk the streets of Lanjau? Who is the woman fate has returned to Conan in his time of misfortune? Collect the series to find out!
Review
The early Conan art by Barry Windsor-Smith is so fun to look at. I love how he depicts the “dragon” as a giant Gila Monster. It is in true form, as dragons are misrepresented animals in the Hyborian Age. Dinosaurs are the main culprits, but Gila Monsters are an excellent stand-in. I give issue eight of Conan The Barbarian four out of five stars.
