“Keys of Knowledge – Atoms That Explode”
Welcome to the world of heavy elements; those that explode without outside stimulus. Today’s lesson covers the “Radioactive Decay Constant” in uranium, thorium, and radium. This information feature is such a blast.
“Alone Against Talpa”
A new super-metal is formulated deep in the bowels of the Earth. Now North Am has lost contact with the colony of scientists who made the discovery. Did a technological error send the researchers and their families to their doom? Could the creatures known as the Troglodytes to blame? Magnus and Senator Clane have been sent to the drilling site to preform an investigate.
“A Case of Nerves”
Commander Zarz and his crew have been model ambassadors aboard Captain Johner’s spaceship bound for Earth. The question is if their human counterparts have fared as well in the exchange program? It seems, not so much.
Aboard the alien vessel, Crewmen Ric and Crewmen Mac have been short with each other recently over the cramped living conditions. The atmosphere has left little desire for the suboptimal breathing conditions as well. To pass the time, all four men have agreed to explore the ship and see if they can learn a thing or two about alien technology. Unfortunately, their timing is for the birds. A dangerous anomaly has sent the power core into a catastrophic meltdown.
“Keys of Knowledge – Twisting and Bending”
Gold Key presents several exercises to add to your workout routine.
Review
This is one of the better Magnus stories in the beginning of the series. Robert Schaefer and Eric Freiwald were some of the best storytellers in the early issues. Russ Manning certainly shaped a unique world with his art. I absolutely love his alien designs for the Captain Johner stories. If you are looking for retro sci-fi comics, definitely check out Magnus. I give this one four out of five stars.
