“Marvel Unleashed – Part 01”
The front door to Avengers Mansion opens as Jarvis investigates a massive disturbance outside the entryway. Why is there a pack of dogs barking and clawing at the freshly stained mahogany? Before the Stark family butler can efficiently calm the situation a golden retriever, German shepherd, and a French poodle bum-rushes past him. They are in search of a big time superhero named Redwing!
As Jarvis turns on his heels he sees all three dogs stop in unison, sit, and the Labrador begins a series of timed barks. In moments a regal hawk comes flying out from an upstairs
Hallway. “Lucky,” Redwing squawks. “What brings you to the mansion?” Over the next few minutes Lucky fills Captain America’s pet in on a missing persons report.
The owner of the poodle, Juniper, has been missing for several days now. It’s not like him to not take Juniper for rides and hand out treats. The poodle has acquired assistance from D-Dog the “world’s best” superhero but the German shepherd is a bit out of her league. It’s time to bring in the pros to face the men in yellow sweaters!
Can Redwing help Lucky, D-dog, and Juniper track down the missing owner before the treats dry up forever? What’s the story of the Rainbow Bridge, anyways? Why is Lockjaw trapped in an underground scary place? Collect the series to find out!
Reviewer Notes
Being a Benji freak as a kid, and yes the low-rent knockoff Boomer, I have to admit I love these super-pet stories. The last one I reviewed was the four part Lockjaw miniseries with D-Man. Issue one of Marvel Unleashed blows that concept away in my opinion.
Marvel Comics is really pushing Blackheart recently. Wonder what that’s about. Don’t worry there are some cool villains in this one. I’m giving five out of five paws for this issue. I hope these dogs like cats. Pet Avengers assemble!
