“Contest Of Chaos: Part Three”

Arizona, Mr. B’s Shoes, Johnny Storm is having a really bad day. He paces back and forth on the floor of the “old man’s” shoe store as Ben Grimm gleefully tries on pair after pair of derbies. “Come on man, hurry up!” Johnny thinks to himself. Things are about to get worse as Ben starts to lecture the junior member of the Fantastic Four on good footwear. Johnny is moments away from going full nuclear when Ben suddenly interrupts his TED talk. Where is Mr. B?

Johnny quickly volunteers to retrieve the elderly store owner but changes his mind when Ben mentions the man’s health. Did Mr. B die? Ben confirms the possibility but in a playful manner. Johnny isn’t ready to see an old dead guy. Reluctantly he enters the back stockroom in search of the shoe salesman.

After a hasty walk-around, Johnny finds a bathroom door. Please don’t be dead. Please, oh please don’t be dead! Johnny knocks on the door but there is no reply. The sounds of Ben singing about shoes begins to drift over Johnny’s ears. Johnny rolls his eyes in pure disgust. He slowly opens the door expecting to see a dead grandpa, but he is no longer inside the store. A large hellscape sprawls out as far as the eye can see. Johnny turns but the bathroom is no longer visible. A voice calls out from his right. “Welcome to Hell, I think”.

Why does Ben Grimm love shopping at Mr. B’s anyways? Do all shoe store bathrooms look like quintessential hell? Wait, is that Johnny Blaze? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

Nope. I’m not going to do it. I shan’t be enticed into buying another crossover event. With that said, this annual ties into the “Contest Of Chaos” storyline. Even though Ryan North is absent from the script, Zac Gorman does an excellent job bringing the comedy.

You’re not going to get the full breakdown of the chaos event just by reading this annual, however the main focus of this issue is the action. I’m not 100% sure why the Human Torch is living rent free in Ghost Rider’s head, but the Spirit of Vengeance can hold a beef. Overall the issue is entertaining so I will give it a three out of five stars. I hope Ben finds the shoes he was looking for. Until next time.
