“His Master’s Voice – Part 18”

Doomed! Red Sonja and Kulan Gath have become trapped in a reality that neither can break free from. This place is not the afterlife. Could it be hell? No, this realm is much older. This is the primordial chaos even the ancient gods cannot touch. So, how can a mortal warrior and an ancient sorcerer reconnect with their world of origin?

One thing is for certain, the war between Ymir and Gath’s armies will continue to do battle with each other until the end of time. That, of course, is until Sonja can discover how to destroy Kulan Gath. What is she missing? Is there another clue that will help end the war? Will she even be remembered?

Reviewer Notes

Finally! We have reached the end of the Red Sonja story, which spiraled out of control ten issues prior. Put a fork in it, I say. Even the conclusion left me scratching my head. What was the necklace thingy covered in snakes? Was sister Grace the real bad guy here? Was that even Grace? What the actual f*ck is going on here?

Dynamite Comics allowed Torunn Grønbekk to milk the readers for eighteen issues. Then he writes this flippant ending which erases the entire event in two pages. Why should Red Sonja fans trust anything Dynamite releases in the future? I, for one, do not. Volume 07 started off strong, but I can’t in good conscience recommend this series to anyone. I give this issue two out of five stars, and the series as a whole, a very weak three.
