Sabrina The Teenage Witch – Holiday Special

Sabrina The Teenage Witch – Holiday Special

My Rating

Rating: 3 out of 5.

“The Longest Night”

The beast had come from its dark abode to take Ali away from the school. It would be up to Sabrina and her classmates to bring the girl back. The only problem is the lack of bravery. Can Sabrina, Fiona, Maddie, and the rest of the students of the Academy of Unseen Arts rescue their friend from the caverns so far away?

“A Very Spellman Solstice”

Back in Aunt Hilda and Zelda’s day they celebrated Yule walking both ways uphill in ten feet of snow just to hex the tree. It’s time for Sabrina to learn the history of the Spellman love curse and just why her aunts never wear their ugly Yule sweaters anymore. Will their blast from the past be a cute family story or a blast from the past?

Reviewer Notes

Merry Yule Tidings from Greendale and the Spellman household. This year Archie Comics takes us back to the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina days as we find her at the Academy of Unseen Arts fighting a mystery beast. I’m not very familiar with this version of Sabrina, or the Chilling universe’s characters. I’m mainly a fan of the original Sabrina setting so if there is something off about this story I wouldn’t even know.

The story was short but an enjoyable read. My favorite part of the whole thing was learning the different spells that Sabrina can cast and what each one does. Who was the beast? Was this a recurring character? Can someone fill me in?

The main plot of this Holiday Special seems to focus on Hilda and Zelda and their Yule debacle. Is this supposed to be set in the late 1980s or sometime in the 1990s? It’s very vague to say the least. All I know is Greendale has a major ghost problem. I liked the story but I prefer the original versions of Hilda and Zelda.

I’m giving this comic book three out of five stars. The stories are nothing groundbreaking, but if you need a good Christmas vacation time filler this one will do.
