I was wondering if Ryan North would do a callback to his Skrull storyline in the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, the answer is yes indeed. In 2019 a Skrull defector landed on Earth and disguised herself as the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl which ultimately was foiled by the real Squirrel Girl and Tony Stark. Now the defector is back and her name is G’illian Blax’zthor (see TUBSG #40, 2019).
The storyline is getting interesting for me, however I can see why some readers might be bored already. The plot doesn’t advance much as this book is literally three scenes. Two of those are callbacks to the Squirrel Girl issue #40 and the other references the first Secret Invasion (from 2008, I believe).
I would recommend this series if you are really into Skrull stuff, but the action is a little slow at the moment. I’m giving this issue three out of five stars. Brain-Drain needs to step in and liven things up!
