Secret Invasion – Volume 02  Issue 04

My Rating

Rating: 3 out of 5.

We Got Her

Aboard the C.I.A. Helicarrier, somewhere above New York state, Maria Hill has just revealed to a captured Skrull spy named Danni her recent handiwork. On the floor in front of the containment cell lay the bodies of five Skrull human sympathizers (sorry Squirrel Girl, G’illian Blax’zthor seems to be dead now – see The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #40, 2019). Maria now has a new agenda and interrogation isn’t part of it. The head of the C.I.A. moves over to a control panel near the duty officer’s desk. It’s time to inflict some pain and torture.

Before Maria can key in a command to the cell controls a powerful burst from a repulsor beam hits her in the back. She is flung across the deck and hits a bank of storage lockers as Tony Stark introduces himself to the jailor and prisoner. Maria Hill must think quickly before the situation turns in the Skrull’s favor.

Is this Tony Stark real or alien click-bait? What are the U.S. government’s contingency plans for rogue Avengers? Do some Skrull invaders really not agree with the invasion doctrine? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

If you need to fill ten minutes of your time then this issue should do. Oh for the days when comic books gave content for the money spent. Yes, this was a very short read. The art is spectacular but Ryan North didn’t advance the plot very far.

I’m uncertain if Maria killed off G’illian Blax’zthor – the Skrull defector from 2019. She played a good role in a few of the Squirrel Girl books. It appears Maria gave the Skrull woman the proverbial Columbian necktie. Keeping my fingers crossed for a possible survival story in the future. Due to the shortness of the storyline I have to give this one 3 out of 5 stars.
