Supernatural Thrillers – Volume 01 Issue 13

My Rating

Rating: 4 out of 5.

“A Separate War”

A new war has spread across the Middle East, but ancient territorial rights and religious beliefs have nothing to do with this conflict. An invading force, much older than the civilizations which spawned these modern governments, has laid claim to Cairo and the surrounding lands. There, the god-like elementals known as Zephyr, Hydron, Magnum, and Hellfire search for the ancient artifact called the Ruby Scarab.

This item was forged by sorcerers eons ago to fight and banish the Elementals from the Earthly plane. If only N’kantu – the Living Mummy – and his allies could retrieve the scarab, they too could use its power to destroy the demigods from a time long forgotten. All they need to accomplish this act is penetrate the magical dome erected by Hydron to trap the city in eternal slavery.

Will the governments of the world unite long enough to stop the Elementals from a global takeover? Can the likes of the Incredible Hulk or the Avengers aid in repelling the invasion no standing army seems able to stop? Is there dissension within the ranks of the Elementals? Collect the series to find!

Reviewer Notes

The Elementals continue to wage war on humanity and even the mighty Avengers are unable to make a difference. Well, the 1975 Avengers, to be more specific. Nevertheless, this story is not about how powerful the Incredible Hulk is, or his godly equivalent known as Magnum. This story is all about human tragedy and redemption. Nothing more and nothing less.

Supernatural Thrillers is one of those forgotten gems that should be sought out and coveted by all Marvel Comics fans. It is for me. I give this issue four out of five stars.
