“The Mighty Barbarians – 02”

Tossed into the eye of a storm somewhere on the Western Sea, Morgan Le Fay and her band of otherworldly heroes sail towards the continent of Atlantis. There the Tiger King seeks the counsel of a fading goddess. Will the lands of a banished child accept the return of a murderer? From the Barbarians’ galley ship Kull treks forth into the jungles of his ancestors.

As the blazing afternoon sun cooks the canopy shading the uneasy troop, tempers begin to flare. All but Morgan Le Fay have grown irritated by Kull’s constant commands. The mantle of king holds little sway to those hardened by self-reliance. The gruff barking of Kull assaults allied ears like dagger points. Enough is enough! To defeat their enemies, unity must be embraced like the heart of an incensed lover.

Will the heroes find answers to the Orbs of the Ancient Ones in the ruined temple of the Moon Goddess? Can Anansi reunite with a long lost brother? Does one split the party? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

Ugh. I’m a little disappointed with issue two. Did the White Apes of Sorjoon take over dialog duty? Major cliché alert!

If you have played board games with friends and family, or watched a group roleplay Dungeons and Dragons on YouTube, you will be familiar with the low IQ pettiness of “Who’s the leader? I’m the leader!”. Let’s not forget the knee-slapping hilarity of “Don’t split the party”. Man, that is cutting edge entertainment. Come on Ablaze, really?

Overall, the plot doesn’t advance very far. Kull receives most of the attention in this issue, but when the big moment comes to match intellect with the Moon Goddess, the moment builds to a giant nothing-burger. It’s a shame. Other than that the art was the best thing going for the Mighty Barbarians issue number two. I’m giving this a three out of five star rating. Fellas, round up all those Apes and let’s get back to business.
